In this critically acclaimed Irish Drama, Dave Connolly is a respected member of the Garda Siochana police force, but his loyalty to the law gets tested by his ex-convict brother Joe who is in desperate need of his help following a botched robbery. Dave finds himself embroiled in a cover-up that somehow leads to a secret relationship with Amia, an unhappily married woman who also happens to be the victim of his brother's crime.
After the death of his mother, Murdo and his father journey from Scotland to North Alabama to visit their relatives. Murdo is an accordion player but has not played in a while. He meets a woman named Queen Monzee-ay who plays accordion. She rekindles his interest in music and invites him to play a gig with her. Music becomes a wedge which drives itself between him and his father, who (out of the best intentions) tries to control him. Eventually, Murdo transcends his father and follows the music.
Aris, despairing and desperate, attempts to leave Greece on a rotting and barely seaworthy boat. After being rescued from drowning by the Coast Guard, he returns to his own ruined country as an outcast. There, he experiences every kind of transgression as an outsider of the new "system", where he now must live as a thief, a slave, and a murderer in this dystopian nightmare.
